Hüseyin Baltacı meets with Vincze27 February 2021During the meeting of BTAYTD and FUEN President, the problems faced by the Western Thrace Turkish Minority were discussed.

Hüseyin Baltacı, President of the Western Thrace Minority Higher Education Association, held a special online meeting with FUEN President Lorant Vincze on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.

The statement made by BTAYTD regarding the meeting is as follows:

"The problems faced by the Western Thrace Turkish Minority were discussed at the meeting. First of all, the problems of education were discussed. It was mentioned by the chairman of BTAYTD, Hüseyin Baltacı, that the school gave education in two shifts, morning and evening.

It was also stated that minority primary schools were closed day by day on the pretext of the number of children and although bilingual education in kindergartens has been demanded for years, there has not been a positive development yet.

It was mentioned that restricting our religious freedoms, not speaking the mother tongue in public services and opposing this put our minority in a difficult situation.

Stating that our associations have been closed because the word "Turkish" is used in their names and they have been fighting legally for years and that their "Turkish" identity has been banned, BTAYTD President Hüseyin Baltacı also requested lobbying support from FUEN President Lorant Vincze on this issue.

Finally, it was stated that in the school council elections, it is aimed to limit the rights as well as to completely take away the existing rights from us. FUEN President Vincze said that they would provide all kinds of support regarding the elections and the meeting ended. "
